Foundation North’s Māori and Pacific Education Initiative – a 10 year study into success as Māori and as Pasifika
Hospitality, trust building, sharing and storytelling were at the heart of the development of Foundation North’s pioneering $20 million Māori and Pacific Education Initiative (MPEI).
The development of a ten year longitudinal study linked to MPEI, Ngā Tau Tuangahuru, has taken a similar approach, with the participating educational providers actively involved in the development of the study’s purpose, design and delivery. A paper on the collaborative process behind Ngā Tau Tuangahuru has just been published in Evaluation Matters, the journal of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research. It provides a valuable insight into this innovative study.
Ngā Tau Tuangahuru (“looking beyond for ten more years”) is led by a team involving Dr Fiona Cram and Rachael Trotman (Centre for Social Impact), Dr Tanya Samu (University of Auckland) and Dr Reremoana Theodore (National Centre for Lifecourse Research, University of Otago)
